Hi

I have a big problem with national character encoging in "Polska" section (http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/ ). Encoding should be UTF-8, right? Well, I have my browser "Encoding" option set as "UTF-8" and sometimes I get wrong characters displayed! (changing it to "Auto-Select" doesn't help).
I also get a lot of 404 errors when I click on the link that contains national characters - e.g. "Państwo" link - the second link on the right column at http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/ - just click it and if it will work, keep refreshing (F5 key if you use IE) and sooner of later you will get standard apache 404 error page! ... What's going on?

No problem for me: I tried that and also this category
http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/Regionalne/Dolny_Śląsk/
with "even more non-Latin" characters.

No problem.

However, THAT link doesn't work -- I had to "copy LINK LOCATION" rather than just cut and paste. Here's a working link:

http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/Regionalne/Dolny_%a6l%b1sk/

which can be copied also from the address bar:

http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/Regionalne/Dolny_Śląsk/

and that doesn't work HERE -- but that's BB URL-munging, and I can't blame it on either the Mozilla Directory or the Mozilla Browser.

I'm using Mozilla, which doesn't do bizarre things to URLs, but basically just sends them through as written.

No problem.

How many times did you tried it? I just refreshed it couple times and I get:
Code:
Not Found
The requested URL /World/Polska/Regionalne/Dolny_ÅšlÄ…sk/ was not found on this server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/2.0.46 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.46 OpenSSL/0.9.6b Server at dmoz.org Port 80

I tried it both on IE and Opera... It also occurs from PHP when using one of the popular scripts that grabs the data on-the-fly from DMOZ... So I don't think that this can be browser issue...

F**k, now I realized that I sometimes get error 404 with pages with no special characters in URL! - e.g. http://dmoz.org/World/Polska/Gry/Komputerowe/Konsole/ :

Code:
Not Found
The requested URL /World/Polska/Gry/Komputerowe/Konsole/ was not found on this server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/2.0.46 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.0.46 OpenSSL/0.9.6b Server at dmoz.org Port 80

???

I'm getting the same problems - 404 errors trying to load public side categories in that area. (Dolny Śląsk area that is)

They seem to work on the editors server though.

I've reported the bug internally.

It's intermittent too =/ Some of the subcats I checked are now working and others still 404ing

I suspect this is all part of the same problem that is in this thread in bugs and features:
http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=29034

It seems that one (or more) of the servers is delivering very old pages (I have now had one from 2002!) - are the sub-cats ones that have been added in the last year or two?

It is almost pot luck which server delivers your page, shift/reload (or shift/refresh in IE) may give you a different server and stops your browser from giving you a cached page.
