Directory Search Problems

Foreign language categories are all being rebuilt over the next few weeks/months to use the UTF-8 character set - it allows better representation of multiple languages on the same page and will in the end improve the ODP useability. This may cause some hiccups until everything is complete. I expect this is one of them.

What bobrat said. World/Français was converted to UTF-8 this week, so it seems natural that the search index (which is normally updated once a week) has not updated yet.

The search URL you gave should become http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=image&all=no&cs=UTF-8&cat=World%2FFran%C3%A7ais after the next update, since 'Österreich' is currently searched inside World/Deutsch through http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=%C3%96sterreich&all=no&cs=UTF-8&cat=World%2FDeutsch

It is worked on. We don't knwo when works will finish. A lot of problems have already been cleared.

The conversion project has been going on for many months, but most of the work has been in the last 6 to 8 weeks I guess.

So, from that, I would allow another couple of months, but it may be sooner (it might also be longer).
