Dmoz Directory Status

I have joined this forum because I am becoming increasingly aware at the lack of editors and the state in which DMOZ has placed itself.

I recently submited a website of my own which was viewed by editors and I am unsure of whether it is being accepted or not, but upon reviewing other websites in the same category/section I realised that my website is by far, a better resource than others.

I would like to post the website which is a total failure to the category/section that I submitted my website but I would not like to break the rules of this forum - so upon authorization I will post the website and mine so that the editors of DMOZ can review the site and maybe the category.

As a side question I would like to ask if it is possible to have a site of your own in the dmoz directory and be an editor for that category/section.

thanks,
Impact

The ODP is the largest human-edited directory of web content in the world. Dmoz is a vibrant and growing site with thousands of editors working dilligently, effectively and patiently to create a valuable free resource. That is the "state in which DMOZ has placed itself." To say otherwise is simply to ignore the facts.

You, like any other submitter can request a status update in the submission status forum. Please read and follow the forum guidelines.

Yes, you can apply to edit a category where you have an interest. However, editors who do so need to show their own sites no preferential treatment.

xixtas01 - Sorry, I wasn't meaning to degrade the dmoz directory in any way.

Ok, but there is something that I would like to do about this site. Maybe I could apply to be an editor?

Obviously, why would you want to?

Does applying for a category that you have interest in (as well as a website of your own) give you a better chance or a lesser chance?

If a site clearly doesn't belong or is miscategorized you can report it here. http://resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5453

If a site just isn't very good but still fits the category, then we'd rather concentrate on finding good sites to add rather than removing marginal sites. There's no limit on the number of sites in a category, so it's not like it's taking up a spot. I do understand where you're coming from on this, though.

Becoming an editor isn't for everyone. But if you think you could really improve a category by adding sites in accordance with the editing guidelines, then I encourage you to apply.

xixtas01 thanks for your help. What if I wanted to add another section to a category?

The procedure is to discuss the proposed subcat with other interested editors. After discussion in the editor forums, (not to mention trippling the number of listings) I added a few subcats to my first category.
