DMOZ fading?

I submitted a site for inclusion 3 years ago, never got listed. I did again a couples weeks ago on a lark not expecting ever to get listed due to the back log. In any case my point is that I have been hearing rumors that the importance of DMOZ in search rankings has demissed a great deal due to the issues DMOZ has been having the last year or so. BruceClay doesn't even list DMOZ anymore (maybe due to its inclusion into other search engines, maybe not). In any case, DMOZ is foundering near the rocks. I love the ideals of DMOZ and like sites, but I fear in time DMOZ becoming a ghostship of old/irrelevant websites and itself may become irrelevant. In my experience once you start hearing whispers...it isn't long before its reality.

I'm sorry but I didn't understand most of that. It doesn't seem to be relevant to our objectives.

Do you have a question that we could help you with?

I heard whispers that Bruce Clay cheated in the last WWF world championship bout. Should we warn the referee before this Saturday's rematch?

Bruce?

Forget it. I think the point was missed. Is Bruce Clay a wrestler? Anyway, my basic point is that DMOZ is on its way to becoming irrelevant IMHO, at least as far as search engine rankings go. I mean how can a site be submitted and, if its lucky, get looked at 5 years later. Who wants to look in a directory that has 90% of its websites that are over 5 years old thats like 90 in internet years. Nearly all of the posts on these boards are about sites being overlooked for years lol. Thats not a sign of a healthy online community. There are alot of cutting edge websites out there that are being totally overlooked. It still is a useful tool though. I found alot of really cool/useful websites on here and its fun to browse. The editors are nice and most seem commited. Ok I'll get off the soap box. Later

I have no clue without searching who or what Bruce Clay is - certainly its not clear in the context of your post.

I don't think that's what you meant to say, but if it is, I would - site longevity is generally related to there being an actual business behind the site.

Thats the nature of the beast - very few people on any purposed forum (ie not general chat) post about positive experiences

'cutting edge design or content? We are not interested in cutting edge design, but cutting edge content will quite often have categories created rather rapidly.
I found alot of really cool/useful websites on here and its fun to browse.
We hope that thats the general impression for an actual user. Providing a category with a representative sample of sites about a subject is the aim.

You'll have gathered by now that we aren't particularly interested in search engines, as demonstrated by our ignorance of the wrestler that you mentioned. I hope he isn't too mortified.

I use them as useful tools of course, but I don't know anything about their inner machinery.

Different universes, different ideals, different priorities. You might be amazed to find out this, but most of human culture isn't SEO, or indeed any kind of advertising.

um, why? most editors cover the 99.99% of the web that has nothing to do with SEO at all. Having peeked at that site, I think it is useless :( , not one ensemble, no lyrics, no dance descriptions, no costumes, ... :D Of course, I am looking at it from a folk dancers perspective :p

BruceClay fading?

BruceClay dot com must be fading because I've never heard of it. Then again, I don't really care much about wrestling or seo issues :)

P.S. Sorry if my response sounds a bit sarcastic, but as you can see from most of our responses here, most of us don't have much interest in seo type issues. They tend to bring out the worst in us :)
