Over the past 3 or 4 years I have applied to be an editor no less than ten times. Each time with an arbitrary reason for decline. Either "Thank you very much for your application. Unfortunately it appears that you have not fully disclosed your affiliated websites again. Affiliated websites include those that you own, market, assist with, have written content for, maintain, etc." Ok that is fine, I agree. But my last time I was declined because "your suggested sites are too related to your industry". This is even though NONE of the site I suggested were mine. I have also tried applying to categories that I HAVE NO business or personal motivation in, just want to get in an help with the listings. In those cases, just get a blank 'no comment'. Do humans even review this requests or is it just a pretty little array of random phrases that the system chooses from?

Then this brings me to suggesting sites. Once again I have been trying to submit sites for multiple years. Never once has a site been entered (a few of them were in Alexa's Top 1000 on the web). Obviously unless you bribe the reviewer you do not get in.

While I know that I have a harsh tone to my message, I do honestly welcome the opinion of some reviewers here. Possibly I am missing something.

Reasons are never arbitrary. But is many instances we only send a list of common mistakes of which one or more a valid for that application. Being able to find the reason(s) and correct them can be seen as part of the application process. It is very similar to tasks editors will have to do everyday.

Do humans even review this requests or is it just a pretty little array of random phrases that the system chooses from?
All applications are reviewed by humans. But we do use standardised letters as reponse. We can add specific comment to these standard letters if we want.

You can not try to get a websites listed. That is not how DMOZ works. You can only suggest a website. Which means `hi editor, I think this website might be of use for the directory` Nothing more.

Obviously unless you bribe the reviewer you do not get in.
That is the easiest way to be sure that your website(s) will never be included.

I think you and me are not just qualified, and you know what is the best we can get from that??? I bet you don't. lol. We are developing ourselves... may be oneday we will compete with dmoz...lol.
