dmoz site updating currently?

Browsing around the directory I can load pages at the moment, but if I refresh/reload pages to ensure I am looking at the latest version, the pages just remain loading and a fresh page isn't delivered.

Is dmoz.org in the middle of a big site update right now or is there some other problem?

It may be my browser settings, the problem only seems to be happening in Firefox, not IE. But I haven't had this problem with Firefox/dmoz before and other sites are reloading just fine.

No known problem of this sort at the moment. The DMOZ frontend is based on a cluster of servers, and each reaquest is randomly directed to one of those. If you can't reach one of them, try a shift-reload, most likely you are sent to a different server that time.

Thanks Windharp, shift/reload cleared the problem.

So it would seem that the server that originally delivered the pages to me is currently unavailable.

Some kind of latency due to a deadlock situation or sheer high bandwidth. Likely a case of the latter actually. By the way I can concur re special problems with Firefox. It might be a case of Firefox not playing well with a certain firewall or proxy.

Could be any number of problems with the server, possibly nothing more than being taken out for maintenance, I should have thought of the possibility of muliple servers.

It wasn't a Firefox problem, I fired up IE to see if the problem occured there too, but of course the pages were then delivered by a different server. If I had thought to open up a new Firefox page or tab it would have been obvious what was happening.

I downloaded Firefox a few weeks ago, after seeing significant (5%) numbers of visitors using it for my site. Although originally only wanting to check the way my site displayed, I was so impressed with the features (the tabbed browsing is wonderful) that I now use it all the time, I didn't think anything would drag me away from IE!

I don't think you're the first to "try" firefox and stick with it. It is the browser of preference for most ODP editors I know. I thought Mozilla was a pest, but then phoen.. eh, I mean.. firebir.. fox! was released :)

(Are we starting the usual browser war here? I still stick with Opera. Tried Mozilla, tried Firefox, still convinced that Opera is better :) )

Why not have a war? :) I tried them all as well.
Opera was my least favorite. FireFox Rocks!
:D
As a matter of fact, Opera was a real pain. :confuse2: :p

I mostly agree with the above post. I'm not crazy about Firefox to the exclusion of IE meta browsers like Maxthon though. And devote a bit of time to Kmeleon - those guys need a bit of encouragement.

And good old Mozilla. Version 1.7.5 will be out soon and will feature: "a virtually identical Gecko version to Mozilla Firefox 1.0". I still have a lot of time for Mozilla over its upstart younger cousin.
