Hello
I'm new to ODP so please somebody explain. While lots of search engine submitter offer paid service with plenty of marketing words "guaranteed-to-be-top-rank", what makes ODP better than auto-submitters?

Personally I don't like paid service submitter, it will make unfair competition. why? site with good content but low budget will be beaten by poor content site but willing to pay lots of dollars to be the top rank in search engine.

thanks,

Nothing makes DMOZ better than a paid directory. They have different different goals, different methods, and ... different products. For some purposes, the Open Directory is the best in the world -- and there is no second best. For others, it is nearly worthless.

If you want what DMOZ provides, then ... use it. If you want to use commercial classified ads, then ... use them. If you aren't sure which one you want, try them both out.

The unique thing about the ODP is that it is, um, unique. If one classified business directory closes down, ten more open up the next day. But there is no other comparable directory of the INFORMATIONAL content of the web: Yahoo's noncommercial sections might be a third the size of ours, and everything else is even less comprehensive.

What your friends are offering is "paid website promotional services." Some webmasters want that service, but the ODP doesn't offer it. We are not supposed to promote one website over another. We tell people what content is on the web, and where. Which of that content they use -- is their business. We don't care.
