Do any categories get updated?

I submitted our website which sells paintball guns and accessories to the following category http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/Paintball/

Submitted this in like March or April, cant remember the exact date but it was around that time. The site was submitted to the correct category. Wouldn't fit anywhere else. Everything was spelled correctly and punctuation was perfect as well as our title and description.

So now it has been over 7 months, no site added. Haven't even seen 1 update in the category.

Since I do work for a paintball company I tried to volunteer to edit that category. But of course that was turned down right away. Figured if the editors are too busy then the least I could do was help out.

I'm just not sure what to do. You are not suppose to ask the category editors. You can no longer enquire here without being stomped on. You get the same response al the time. It is a free directory with unpaid editors and so on.

I have submitted sites in the past for another company I worked for and they at least were answered with a rejection if it happened. But these days you cant get an answer no matter where you turn

So instead the category remains full of dead links. Abandoned sites and spam links while an actual company that people look for and would be a great addition to the category cant get listed.

Just having an affiliation to a site that could be listed in a category will not in itself cause automatic rejection. Of course if you're joining primarily to list your own site, then that's not useful to the project. But if not, then perhaps you might like to look at the other possible reasons given in the email you received. Think if working out which apply, and fixing them, as part of the application process. Many of our most active current editors took more than one application before they were accepted. (You'll find some useful advice for editor applications in the forum FAQ on this site.)

So instead the category remains full of dead links.
If you'd like to help us identify and remove these, then please use the "quality control" forum here, or the "update listing" link on the category page.

It took me three times of applying before I was accepted and to be perfectly honest the mistakes I had made were quite rudimentary initially. It just takes reading the guidelines and the questions carefully before deciding to apply. ;)
