Do I need to submit again?

Hello,

I suggested the website <url remove> One time in 2006 and another time in 2007. I really don't remember the exact dates (if I do that again I will write it down), but it's been like more than a year since the first time.

Should I submit again or should I wait 2 years? (I've heard that's how long it can take).

I also feel that maybe the category was not right. This is a website of a lawyer that works in Maryland but then he helps federal employees (e.g. Postal Workers) that are scattered all over the USA.

Which category will be the right one???:
Top: Society: Law: Services: Lawyers and Law Firms: Disabilities Law: North America: United States: Maryland

or simply:
Top: Society: Law: Services: Lawyers and Law Firms: Disabilities Law: North America: United States:

*** If DMOZ needs a physical address to add to any of above cats, and the website doesn't have that information (for whatever reason), is there any other category I can add it to?

I will appreciate any help,

CMC

Neither. if you have suggested the site in 2007 there is no need to suggest it again.

Hopefully, when you made the suggestion you did it to Society: Law: Services: Lawyers and Law Firms: Disabilities Law: North America: United States: Maryland

If not, do not resuggest, an editor will move it when they review it.

Generally speaking, no. While an physical address is not an absolute requirement within Regional/ the site would certainly need to have enough information to convince the editor that it is geographically correct, since regional sites are listed based upon the physical address not upon the area served. I do most of my work within Regional and would have an exceptionally hard time listing a legal firm that does not show an address within Regional.

I hope the editor contact the email I used to suggest the URL or the attorney himself to verify that he works in that location. He's a member of Bar Association of Montgomery County.

The editor might call the bar at (301) 424 - 3454 (although I doubt he or she will go that far....).

Mr. McGill has also been admitted in 1988 the Maryland, U.S. District Court, District of Maryland and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

The telephone number of the US District Court for the District of Maryland is (410) 962-2600 (in Baltimore) and (301) 344-0660 in Greenbelt.

The phone number for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is (804) 916-2700.

Any of these numbers would verify that he is an attorney in Walkersville, Maryland.

I don't know why he lists only his PO Box. I'd speculate that for security reasons because he deals with postal employees, but this is just one possible cause, not 100% sure. He has another website and a very popular forum at lawyers dot com (that's not my website), which is owned by Martindale-Hubbell's Lexis Nexis....

Thanks,

CMC (OrelWeb)

If a surfer can't find that information *on the site* then no, it isn't considered.

is it on the site?

Many people have a reason to not disclose their actual address (although I can't imagine why an attorney thinks his business address is secret). We don't always require a street number or name, but we do require information on the site that shows that they are based in a particular place (for a Regional listing) - note the Topical listing pointed out by spectregunner is effectively a state wide list (requires information on the site that they practice/are based in a state, but does not require an address). The site might be listed in both categories.

He has another website
Only 1 website per person/business is generally listed, especially if they are about the same (broad) subject, in this case Law.

In general, without checking the particulars, we'd prefer a personal site to one at at an aggregator such as lawyers.com. If the lawyers.com site is listed in DMOZ, you probably should request (through an update request) the change to his personal site.

I have submitted to the correct category for 2 years and still no listing

I have submitted our site several times over the course of 2 years. I was careful to submit it to the correct category and I don't understand why we are not listed. Is this some kind of exclusive club? We have a high quality reputable site with good google rankings and lots of good links but for some reason dmoz will not list our site. Someone please help. What do I have to do???

It would have been helpful if you had read the FAQ before postings, since all of your questions are answered there.

In short, there is nothign else you can do. you have already made multiple suggestions, all you can do is wait. The FAQ discusses waiting times.

Gopogle rankings and links (good, bad or otherwise) are not factors in determining if a site can be listed. Our FAQW also addresses this, but the abridged version reads like this: unique content!

The attorney I was talking about also have a website in lawyers.com.

May I suggest that URL too w/o being penalized?

It'd be the same attorney with different information.

I know you just said you'd prefer a personal site than one at an aggregator such as lawyers.com; however, if I have difficulties getting listed in that regional category (because it has a PO Box, not a street address), should I try the aggregator then? The form of that website would be "www . lawyers.com / attorneywebsite" or something like that...

Thanks in advance,

CMC
PS.- I was first talking about a forum in lawyers dot com, but this attorney also have a website under that website.

This is an attorney that works in a very small town and whose clients are based in all over the United States. He helps federal workers (mostly posta1 workers) to obtain OPM disabi1ity. So it's a very small niche. There are probably 10 or less attorneys in the whole USA that work in this area. Actually, I think that none of his clients ever see him personally (unless the case gets complicated and he actually have to go to a MSPB court).

Anyway, please somebody answer my question right above this one, that is, if I can also post a website (like an attorney's profile) under the lawyers.com URL w/o being penalized?

Again, it would be the same attorney but with different information.

Thanks in advance,

CMC
