Do you find out if your site is not going to be listed?

I understand fully that this site is run by volunteers, and these people do not get paid. Hats off to them, they all do a great job.

But I followed the guidelines very carefully and submitted my site months ago into the category right down to the city I live in. I am a new business, with only me working it against some very stiff corporate competition in my area, who all seem to of managed to get listed.

I am very patient and don't mind waiting for things, but the thing I find all very frustrating about this, I am told that there is no way of knowing if your application has been rejected or not? Is this true?

Thanks for listening.

Site suggestions are only rejected if either the site doesn't meet our inclusion guidelines or is down when an editor attempts to review it.
If approved, it's directly visible in the category. No emails are sent in either case.

Hi,

I submitted my site a few months ago, and was wondering will I get a e-mail to notify me that my listing has not made it?

I am desperate to get this listing, it's really hard to get a business off the ground in the field of work I am in!

No, you will not be notified by e-mail.

Any business should not rely on being listed in ODP, since it is not a marketing tool.

Any business should not rely on being listed in ODP, since it is not a marketing tool.

It's not labelled a "marketing tool", but it serves the same purpose. Once your listing is accepted into DMOZ, it gets submitted into thousands of other directories that use the same data. Your site also gets a powerful backlink from the sub-category page you submitted to, which in turn, helps your search engine rankings. However, I agree, its a terrible idea to rely on DMOZ as the sole method of ranking high in the search engines. I just look at it as a lottery ticket. If I win, great! If I lose, well, I still go to work everyday and do my job!
