Well, the title is just to make you curious. It should be: Why do you must read the guidelines. Yeah, why?

1. Because it will look good? No, because you save time for editors and they can focus on reviewing instead of deleting, moving, etc…
2. Again, because you can save some time that can be used for reviewing. Why? Because a lot of editors spend their time in the forums correcting posts and guiding YOU on how to subm…, suggest a site.
3. Again, because you can save them some time. In a myriad of other ways.

So, do you want your site listed faster? Do you know now whose fault is? Oh, and you don’t delay just your suggestion. They are others too.

All the above is only my opinion.

Just apply to be an editor. Sycophanting around here won't get your account auto-magically upgraded... :)

I don't believe i have the skills required to be editor. I'm just the average Joe, not an Internet Guru.

Most of us are just average Joes or Janes. If your motives are right and you have an interest somewhere in some little category of the directory, then being an average Joe might just be the kind of editor that category needs. Being an internet Guru has nothing to do with being a good editor. Trust me, I understand nothing about the internet or computers. I barely know how to turn mine on. But I would suggest studying not just reading all the guidelines that you find, including titles and descriptions of sites already listed, then really make sure the sites you find fit that category, titles and descriptions are directory compliant, then go for it. Your home town in Regional might be a good place to start. Or if your hometown category is a large one, then choose a smaller sub-cat of your hometown. Or some non-commercial hobby that you might have an interest might be another good choice. You might just get a surprise email that says you have just been accepted as an editor for the ODP.

I second that. I'm sure you've got what it takes, judging by your posts, miromulus. An appreciation of what this thing is all abotu and you're 3/4 way there.

And yes it's true: supply a ready-made title and description and I can't imagine having to come here for a status update. It'll stand out in the unreviewed queue and the editor just needs to go click, click.

That's known as "click-through-editing", and editors get their wrists slapped for it. Reason being: it's not possible to click through edit; because nobody ever supplies a title and description that conforms to the guidelines.

Motto is: help the editors to help you...
(and read the bloody guidelines)

Second forum where you've asked the saem question.

We don't just hand new editors the keys to the database and walk away.

Many have tried ecactly what you have proposed -- most have been found out and any damage has been reversed.

Some got the ODP religion, and have gone on to become great editors.

A few may still be hiding under the bedclothes, but they can't hide forever.

If you know this to be a fact, report it with all of the relevant details to the link referenced above.

However, if this is just rumor or innuendo, keep it to yourself.
