Does ANYONE review the "Update URL" requests?!?!?

S

I've submitted NUMEROUS requests over the last several months to update the "title" portion of the listing for my site, but have not received any action or even a response. Does anyone monitor these requests or do they just go into a black hole?!?!?!??!

Update request are treated like all public suggestions, but most editors give them priority when they work on a category.

And, please, can you avoid using all capitals in your posts?

Giving information needed to check what exactly is going on instead of shouting is usually much more efficient if you want something from someone else. At least that's how things work in this forum.

Please post the URL of the site, so that we can investigate. Thanks.

Thanks for responding. The URL is http://www.sLhAcKeR.com. I'd like to have my real name removed from the "title" field in the listing from my site. Please remove any other references to my real name.

Thanks,

Re: Does ANYONE review the "Update URL" requests?!

If you take a look at http://dmoz.org/Society/People/Personal_Homepages/K/, all sites in that category have Lastname, Firstname as the title. Check out http://dmoz.org/Society/People/Personal_Homepages/desc.html

But if the name is no longer on the web site, then it would not be put in the title, but then the site could no longer be in that category. Is that what you want?

Just my observations - I have no way to change the infromation there.

[Edited to correct the second URL]

Removing it from the category would be just fine. I can resubmit it later on to some other category like "humor" - without including my real name. :)

I've tried the "Update URL" button numerous times over the last several months, but my requests seem to just go into a black hole.

Such is the nature of a volunteer directory. It takes us between two minutes and two years to review a request.

Posting here does not expedite your request.

The fact that you have requested the removal of your site does not guarantee that it will be removed. If the reviewing editor determines that it has value to our users (the web surfers) then that editor may choose to keep the listing in the directory.

That area has larger number of requests for addition and update than most parts of the directory and a lot less people interested in wading through them. Your amazing number of submitted update requests only made it harder to process requests there. However, I did do some update processing in the area, and since the name is not listed on the website, removed the name from the title and moved it to the Anonymous section.

We are a bunch of busy bees trying to put websites in the categories they belong with correct titles and descriptions, but update requests get mixed with other submissions, and they don't always get processed as soon as we would like.

Speaking of bees, problems like this are solved a lot easier with a bit of honey and a whole lot less vinegar.

Re: Does ANYONE review the "Update URL" requests?!

Be aware that a change within ODP\DMOZ will not have an immediate effect on other web sites that use ODP data. So it's likely you are listed in hundreds of other web sites including Google. Each of those web sites has their own schedule for updating their sites from the ODP database, and that time seems to range from a few days to never.

We have no control of that.
