Does submitting to a regional category affect my place in a more specific category?

I submitted my site about a month ago to the computer consultants category, and I understand that there will be a long wait for my site to be processed in that category.

I have heard that I can also subit my site to a regional category, and that will not affect the original submission, and that the regional sumission, may in fact be processed faster.

Is that correct?

Mostly.

Some types of sites (real estate agent sites come to mind) are only listed in Regional.

Regional usually has a shorter waiting period, because the editors there are better looking, smarter, ..... oops, I digress. The waiting time are often shorter.

The procession of a regional sumission has no impact on the processing time for a topical submission
