Double Listing Problem

Hello,

I'm having a problem with a double listing on DMOZ.org, at least I feel it is a problem. I had updated (earlier this year I believe it updated, around feb) the listing for my website in a regional category. I have noticed in the last few days that a second listing appeared that I did not request and nor would anyone else in the establishment would have requested.

The entry for this second listing is under the same title and same URL with the exception of the casing (e.g. Original listing similar to "examplewebsite.co.uk" and second listing similar to "Examplewebsite.co.uk").

On another forum someone said it may have been the call of an Editor to put this second listing up. In which case I am wondering why the description which both covered the local and online sales aspect of the site that was used for the original listing was not used, and instead replaced by a poorly worded and badly gramatical description.

Also by design or coincidence Google has updated its listing from ODP and removed their reference to the dmoz entry I have posted and replaced it with the one I didn't request and at the same time it appears removed all but the home page from the search engine listings. I know Google and ODP are linked, but I also appreciate that Google issues aren't relevant to resource-zone but I thought would mention it incase this could be an issue from this double listing. The listing on a normal google search uses the poor description from the ODP second listing.

I have submitted an ODP abuse report because as far as I know this double listing isn't allowed. I explained the situation in there but I don't want to lose my ODP listing for a double list that was beyond my control.

I appreciate that ODP are busy and editors are all volunteers and I don't want anyone to feel like I am saying anything against them. At the moment I just have a lot of problems that I hope someone can shed some light on.

Thankyou for your time

Leonard

EDIT: My apologies for double posting. My net connection has been playing up and I thought it froze.

Without knowing the details, it sounds as if the listing was supposed to be moved from one category to another one, and accidentally kept in the first one. That's human error -- when it's detected it's fixed, but we wouldn't remove a listable site entirely over a thing like that. If you submitted an abuse report it will be looked into, and if either of the two listings is found to be inappropriate it'll be removed, that's all.

It might also be the case that the site is eligible for listing in several categories, in which case nothing else needs to be done. But the people dealing with the abuse report will check this.

If the description is ungrammatical or in some other way doesn't conform to the ODP guidelines, please submit an update request to have it fixed -- only, please make sure that it's a bad description from the ODP's point of view before asking for it to be changed.

Just to clarify for anyone reading, the abuse reporting system really isn't for cases like this. A double listing (which is frequently OK according to our guidelines) is not abuse, nor is a poor title or description. As nea points out, using the Update listing link is the most appropriate way to deal with those.

My apologies if I misused the abuse system. I was worried that someone may have tried to submit a duplicate entry to make our link class as spam and get us removed completely. I don't have much room to make mistakes on this shops limited budgets!

Is the second listing in the same category as the first one?
