But thing I have noticed is that
http://dmoz.org seems to be a bit more responsive than
http://www.dmoz.org. So try it without the www.
I'm not certain that this is good advice. I don't know the exact configuration of the servers, but I theorize it could be working like this:
You go to
www.dmoz.org; when you do this, you get sent somewhat randomly to one of the three public servers, say server1. For at least a while, every-time you request something from
www.dmoz.org you get sent to server1.
No say you go to dmoz.org instead of
www.dmoz.org. This is treated as if they could be two different servers (and they could be). So instead of going to server1, you go to server2 for that request. Every request for a page on dmoz.org goes to server2 for a while.
Now if server1 happens to be busier for a while, it will seem that
www.dmoz.org is slower than without the www, but that's only true for you. Someone else may get the faster server2 instead.
This could also explain why some people are having consistent time-out problems trying to submit (they got a busy server), while other people are not. And why some people can submit without problem one day, and then have time-out problems the next day.
As adjustments are made to the new servers over the next couple of weeks, I suspect we'll begin to see less of these problems.
