Questions

Thanks for replying to my earlier question. I have just received an email rejecting my application and would be grateful for some feedback as the reviewer's comments section was left blank in the response.

Firstly, the category to which I applied http://dmoz.org/Health/Beauty/Advice_and_Education has 86 site listings - could you confirm that this is reasonable for a first-time application (under 100?)

Secondly, is there something drastically wrong with my descriptions?

1. An extensive collection of recipes for making hair, skin, bath and personal beauty products.

2.A full-length review of beauty and spa products developed for home use and a guide to enjoying the experience of being pampered without visiting a professional spa or beauty salon.

3. This is a detailed article offering advice on men’s grooming procedures and products, including care for eyebrows, hands, nostrils and skin.

Any advice would be gratefully received - I do realise that you are unable to comment specifically about my application, but if it's completely pointless my reapplying then I'd rather be told now ...

Many thanks.

With its unreviewed, the category is a tad large for a trainee.

As to the rest of your application, we look at many of its aspects, not just the descriptions.

We rarely add reviewer notes to the standard messages. If the email declining your application wasn't specific, it would most likely have included a list of things that can cause problems. I can only suggest that you study it. The FAQ here is also worth reading.

Other aspects

Thanks for your reply. Here are the other aspects of my application. If anyone has any ideas as to where I went wrong, I'd be very grateful.

Internet Experience:
I use the Internet extensively for research purposes and postgraduate work. I have contributed articles for publication on websites, including [2 named websites].

Why I am interested in volunteering:
I understand the value of creating a high quality, content-rich resource and would like to contribute my own knowledge and expertise to this project.

My interest in the Category Subject:
I have postgraduate qualifications in cultural and women's studies with a specialism in beauty culture and education.

Sites with which I am associated:
I have written articles for [2 named websites]. These can be read at the following URLs: [list of 7 URLs]. I do not have affiliations with any other websites – the two sites with which I am affiliated are already listed in the ODP.

For the category to which I am applying:
URLs and Descriptions:
1. http://www.recipegoldmine.com/beauty/beauty.html
Title: Recipe Goldmine
Description: An extensive collection of recipes for making hair, skin, bath and personal beauty products.

2. http://www.lucire.com/2003a/0708ll0.htm
Title: Lucire: Pamper Yourself
Description: A full-length review of beauty and spa products developed for home use and a guide to enjoying the experience of being pampered without visiting a professional spa or beauty salon.

3. http://www.lucire.com/2003a/0612ll0.htm
Title: Lucire: Grooming for Guys
Description: This is a detailed article offering advice on men’s grooming procedures and products, including care for eyebrows, hands, nostrils and skin.

Well -- the lucire.com links don't work for me, and might be considered inappropriate deeplinks if they did work.

As I don't edit in that category, I can't comment on the other site, except to note that if it fits in one of the @Linked categories, it would not fit here.

jimnoble may have the most likely reason -- the :cat: is just too big for a new editor.

links not working

The links are:

http://www.lucire.com/2003a/0708ll0.htm

http://www.lucire.com/2003a/0612ll0.htm

Anyway, sorry about that - does this make things clearer? These links may be 'deep' links but are no deeper than others already in the category:

for example,
http://magazines.ivillage.com/marieclaire/beauty/skin/articles/0,,434727_437520,00.html
Marie Claire: The Ultimate Do it Yourself Pedicure - How to give your feet a well-deserved and pampering deep cleaning and keep your toes looking sexy too.

The Recipe Goldmine link that I suggested offers recipes that aren't included in the other recipe site in the category:
http://tips.tipking.com/beauty/Beauty.shtml
Beauty and health tips - Old fashioned tips to make your own health and beauty products using lemons, garlic, vinegar and other everyday ingredients.

Again, I don't edit in those categories, and (as I noted) I couldn't find the sites from your links, so I don't know if they have adequate content to overcome our preferring not to list deeplinks.
