Previously we tried to submit a site into the following directory
<removed invalid and irrelevant Resource-Zone link>

After waiting for quite a long time we looked into who was the Editor at the time and found out that one of his business interests was in the very same market place to our own.
We submitted a abuse report and after a while the result of this was:
Its current status is resolved - This report has been resolved. We do not disclose the details of our findings, but if abusive editing was found it will be rectified. Thank you for your report. :)
Also the directory is now requires a voluteer I wondered if our abuse report would work against us and if the period of waiting untill we appear will be longer as the submission get moved up a directory to the next available editor.

No, it's extremely unlikely that the abuse report will affect your site view in any direction. Very few editors can see the reports, and it's unlikely that any of those will be the one reviewing your site.

Also, site suggestions don't get "moved up"; an editor can edit in all categories directly below the one(s) they are listed in, and may choose to edit in any of them. A site suggested to one category will wait in that same category until an editor with editing rights there comes along and decides to review it.

While your asnwer was completely and accurately answered by Nea, who always does a great jobs of responding, I did feel compelled to jump into this thread.

My concern is that the quetion and answer might leave a suggestion that the mere fact an editor happens to edit in category where one competes is a form of abuse.

It is not. Editors can and do edit in categories where they may have a business interest. the fact that they compete is not an issue: it is how much (or little) integrity they gbring to the category that matters. If I work for Joe's shoeshine and edit the shoeshine category and list my own site with a guidelines compliant title and desciption -- it is not abuse. If that is all I ever do in that category, it is probably abuse. If I intentionally keep my two competitors -- Fred's shoeshine and Lucy's shoeshine -- from being listed, then it is probably abuse. If I list myself, Fred and Lucyh, give then all equally strong guidelines compliant titles and descriptions, it is not abuse. If I listed all the sites in the category six months ago, and haven't been back since because I am working elsewhere in the directory, it is also not abuse.

My point is that editing where one compeltes is not, in and of itself, abuse. Not reviewing listings, in an of itself, is usually not abuse, unless it is being done in a competitive manner.

And all of this is determined on a case-by-case basis by editors in a much higher unpaid-grade than mine.
