Hi,

Can someone explain why DMOZ is not accepting Editors for the Electronic Cigarettes Category please.

Website like mine <url removed> feel they are not getting listed either because the existing editors for certain categories have an invested interest in the such category and are choosing to exclude new sites for conflicting reasons.

I for one would be happy to be an editor and include yes my website and many many others that comply with good eCom practices.

Thoughts welcome

Assuming that you mean Shopping/Tobacco/Cigarettes/Electronic_Cigarettes, it has hundreds of listing suggestions awaiting evaluation and many of them are unlistable spam. New editor applications have been disabled because t requires an experienced and savvy editor and is unsuitable for beginners.

If you believe that, I'm surprised that you want to have anything to do with us.

good eCom practices.
I have no clue what that means. We only list websites that are listable acccording to our editor guidelines.

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one. (I note that you first suggested your website just a month ago.

Lastly, there is a belief circulating that a DMOZ listing will improve SERP and cause money to fall from the sky. That might have been true at the end of last century and maybe even the first part of the last decade. We don't believe it to be true today. The only people who do are those slavishly following out of date website promotion advice. Some failed SEOs also use the lack of a DMOZ listing as an excuse.

<added> To be listed in a Shopping category, a website must sell direct to the consumer and include a priced catalog and a means of placing an order remotely. Additionally, websites based outside the US must ship to more than one country. Your website doesn't appear to be eligible to be listed in that category.
