Hi Everyone,

It has been about 3 weeks since I submitted to dmoz and still no listing. I neglected to enter an email because I figured I'm either in or I'm not, but it looks as though there may be more to the process of being listed than simply submitting. Since it has been 3 weeks, should I just submit again and this time enter my email address so that I can receive comments from the editor?

The great majority of editors (for all intents and purposes all of them), never send feedback when they accept/reject a site.

What was the category you submitted to? Depending on how large it was (i.e. how many sites are waiting to be reviewed), it may take much longer than three weeks for your site to be reviewed.

How long do you think it may take?

Although I don't know your URL, there are no sites waiting to be reviewed at the moment. This means that either your site was rejected, which is very likely, or your URL was forwarded to another, more appropriate, category - which is less likely.

If you would like to post your URL here, feel free. That way we will be able to better ascertain why your site wasn't listed in this category.

Well lets start with the fact that you submitted to the wrong category. Your casino is not browser-based, but rather requires downloading software.

More importantly, your casino is a Windows Casino affiliate. Our ODP Guidelines specifically forbid listing affiliate sites, which is why your site isn't listed.

Most of the sites listed under 'Browser Based' are in fact download casinos. There is no other section for 'download' casinos. In any case I guess the windows affiliate would've ruin my chances anyway...

Notice the FACT that I DID submit to the correct category.

Also notice the FACT that my site does NOT consist MAINLY of affiliate links. Although it does offer an 'affiliate download', I would hardly consider this 'mainly affiliate links'

So I ask again why was my site rejected?

You'll notice though that the only thing that makes your site worth possibly listing in the category is the download. If the download is an affiliate link doesn't that make it "mainly" consist of an affiliate link ?

To paraphrase http://dmoz.org/guidelines.html#Making content is king - the crux of your site, it's central premise, it's raison d'etre is a single affiliate link which makes it lack the fundamental unique content necessary to be listed.

Golden Lagoon has a lot of unique content within its 70-some odd pages. Yes, its raison d'etre IS the download, and yes the download has commercial value, but so does any download from any casino and yet there are many casinos listed in the ODP. All this seems to contradict the ODP's anti-commercial image: Let's list the big guys with enough money to license their own casino software, and let's NOT list those who can't afford it and can only use their affiliation with these 'big guys' as a source of income. I know it is not an editor's job to question the rules of the directory, but I believe that it is possible for an editor to see when those rules turn out to be counter-productive to those who themselves established them. I guess I have to give up trying to get listed here until I have enough money to license my own casino software...
