I just applied to be an editor and getting a returned email from apply@dmoz.org I tested the address using 2 different email addresses. So wondering what I should do to get to the next step of my application? Also wanted to let you guys know so you can fix the problem so other people do not get the same problem.

error reply email

I had the same problem and im using hotmail, but what I did to over come the problem was create a new email, make a copy of the dmoz reply email address and copy the full subject line including the 32 character code which has the registration key, then paste the reply email address and subject line in to a new email and send, make sure its a blank email there should be nothing else apart from the dmoz reply email and the subject line and send, I did that and it worked for me I then got this email reply back: "Open Directory editor application received"

Hope this helps

This issue is resolved: 1. Change-mail 2. Back to the theme of the opening theme of "back to" remove the word:D

still getting error

I've followed the above instructions by creating a new email and replying with that, but I'm still getting the same error message. I could be doing something wrong.

Please help.

Thanks!

It would probably help if you could clarify what dmoz.org address are you trying to send it to, the exact text of the error message you're receiving, and what email provider are you using to send the message?

Hey, thanks for posting your solution. I tried that...and haven't gotten an email failure notice yet. Wondering how long it was before you got the "application received" auto-reply? Was it instant or did it take a few hours?

@willfleiss -- I've given your application a kick, and it's now waiting in the queue for an editor to review it.

I'll try to have a closer look at the error messages later, but it does seem that there's some sort of problem on one of the AOL servers. It that remains my best guess I'll make sure it gets reported to the right people.

From my own quick tests, it looks like an intermittent problem -- if you get a delivery failure message like the one above, try sending the message again. It's probably not anything to do with the address you're sending from or whether or not there's any text in the message body. My tests showed about a 50% success rate.

If your reply is successfully prossed, you should get the "Open Directory editor application received" email in a matter of minutes.

(If you get a "Can't find authentication ticket" email, then the most likely cause is that you already made a successful reply. That reply ate the ticket up, and hence it can no longer be found.)

This problem might have been solved back in 2008 but today July 2nd 2009
I have encountered same problem. Please help. For obvious reasons, I have removed my email add.

Problem still there...

Hi, exactly same problem today (september 19th 2009) from over here in France.

I tried to re-send the message three times. One attempt was successful at last.

Thanks for the tip on re-trying. I guess this is a good way to test the motivation of applicants ;-)... however, it probably discourages some would-be volunteers that won't try harder and find this forum post.

Hi ydubois, try posting the key (starts with opendir) and eventually proposed editor name and category applied for in this thread instead. :)
