emailing an editor about a submission

I applied to have my site listed www.professionaltaste.com about 4 months ago, I was told in this forum that it is still waiting to be reviewed in Business/Advertising/Promotional_Items/Business_Items/Cards On the Dmoz website it says you may email the editor of your category if the submission process takes over 3 weeks. I saw no way of getting the editor's email address. How does one go about this?

Ok, if you go to a category page - you will hopefully see something like: >> Category editors: flame, glynis, liza, lundlinks, rapunzel, theseeker, voiceroy, wkn << (example taken from http://dmoz.org/Arts/ ). If you click on an editors name, you will be taken to their 'profile' page where you will see the option >> Email: Send to flame <<. Click on 'Send to ...' and enter your email.

There is no method of getting an editors 'real' email address. Personally, since the start of this forum - I would try and avoid emailing editors regarding submissions. Mainly because emailing a single editor will rely on them a) being able to respond to your email [ie not being on vacation/busy] and b) wanting to respond. But if you post to this forum, many many editors will be able to assist you in your query and will be willing to help.

As it is, I can tell you that you submission to Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/ Promotional_Items/Business_Items/Cards was rejected in June this year as a previous submission was moved to the 'more appropriate' category of: Business/Industries/Printing/Stationery where it is awaiting review with around 150 other sites.

A major problem with your site is that there is no contact address - the user is apparently expected to send money off into the unknown.

Also the only email address given is for your mirror http://www.classy-business-cards.com/ which in turn does not have a contact address or phone number.

My guess would be that an editor finding no contact info and a mirror site gives up at that stage. I cannot see anyone checking all 114 entries in the category to see if another mirror exists.

Having no contact info is not a problem, we editors don't care about such things. If I was a user it would cause me to look elsewhere, but as an editor I'd happily list a site without an address.

I notice that the contact info has been updated on professionaltaste.com. Thanks for pointing that out just_browsing, classy-business-cards.com has now been noted as a mirror and removed from unreviewed in the category it was waiting in.
 

Classy business cards is not a mirror anymore and has not been for a while, it is now my website for full color printing, is there any way to get it back in for review?

If you're trying to get two different listings for the same commercial entity in the same category, please don't. There's not an honest reason not to link the two websites for the same business together. Seeing that that is the case, the editor is not likely to see that the visitor is helped by listing both URLs. The business has a listing, it is its business to make all its pages visible from its home page.

And it doesn't matter whether or not both URLs are on the same domain.
 

They may have different sales targets, nevertheless they are both about printing by the same company. It took me less than 5 seconds from opening both sites to confirm that.

Look it's not wrong/bad to have different information on seperate sites so that they can be targeted better for search terms in google and others but not in the ODP . We are a directory and businesses are listed once . The submission form explicitly states Do not submit an URL that contains only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites. In this case they are both printing sites from the same company.

Don't get upset, if you stand back can you honestly say they are seperate businesses. Do they file seperate tax returns? Do they have different owners?

It's up to you how or whether you link your sites together, but the ODP will list ONE site, you can choose which one, or you can create a unique site that merely has the others as sub domains. We don't care as long as there ends up being one listing for the company.
 

Yes they do file seperate tax returns. I am one the owners of both of the sites but with each site I have a different partner so there are seperate tax returns for each business. I am not trying to con anyone here.

I don't want to appear to be ignoring your case. Honestly I cannot edit your entry anyway.

You have in this case presented a situation that I have not run across or seen discussed since I became an editor. Two companies in basically the same business, operating from the same location, but with differing ownerships.

I'm hoping someone with more background can step in with advice here.

The hard part to me is verification of your statement (no I'm not accusing you of lying), as all I can see is what is on the site(s). Based on what I can see my previous answer applies.

I am stepping aside at this point as I just don't know the answer. Sorry!
