finding URLs which are not already listed for app

Yup, I'm a newby here.

Sorry if this question has been answered a kagillion times here already... I tried a forum search but came up empty handed.

I only started looking into ODP today and became fascinated with the project. I applied and, to my surprise, got an answer within a couple of hours. Unfortunately, I was declined. A very pleasant meta editor added to the "form letter" suggesting that I try harder to find URL's to use in my application, as I should "reapply in the near future".

My question is, how in the world would I find existing site URLs to use in my next application which are not already listed on one search engine or another?

I'd really appreciate any advice you kind folks could offer.

Dan,
It is possible to find URLs from sources other than search engines. Strolling down the road, I come across new URLs in shops and libraries that are worth checking for my regional beat.

But there are also very many URLS that are:
a) not listed in DMOZ
b) in various search engines
c) worth a listing in DMOZ
To find them, try way down the list (start at 500, say for Google), or try an odd combination of words.

Also, consider looking in online trade directories, local government sites etc. (Of course, that depends on the sort of category you are looking to edit).

Good luck if you reapply

You're not looking for URLs that are not in search engines, you're looking for URLs that are not in DMOZ. If you are actually having problems finding URLs to use as examples for a category, then you should probably look at applying for a different category.
