Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle

sites with little information appearing on the Top level. I am not sure of the sites that could be listed under this top level category, but there are many sites, which dont deserve a listing in this top level.

Comparing to a listing of the same level,
Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle: Downloads which looks clean of individual listings, this top level category is congested with many listings that belongs to lower levels.

(I am not sure where to report this, but I dont think this post is for Hijacks, Dead Links & Inappropriate ODP Content Here ONLY).

Most of the listing are old, and in a category without editors, it is understandable. When there is no exact category match, the tend to list it under a major category. The affilaites / publishers / Developers of games exploit this to get better listing.

But I think editors should not be lenient to a listing under a major category.

Listings:
#1. Actual Entertainment - Home Gubble and Gubble2
Both are shareware and may be moved to Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle: Downloads: Collections

#2. All-Reviews.com - Roll Away - Offers a review of the game.
#3. All-Reviews.com - Stephen King's F-13 (if single reviews a single game is listed in a major category, how many listing the category will have? may be it is listed when dmoz was developing. However 2 listings looks Suspicious.)

they may be moved to
Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle: News and Reviews

#4. Bejeweled Deluxe
#5. Dweebs - Guide the Dweebs to the spaceship. Includes demo, merchandise, online shop, and competitions.
#6. ElectrObalz - A ball and paddle type game. Includes a demo, screenshots, and information.
#7. Mountain Vista Software - "Fathom It!", a solitaire adaptation of the classic pencil-and-paper game of battleships, for logical deduction puzzle buffs. Windows shareware.
#8. Mr. Matt - An addictive puzzle game for Windows 95 ...
#9. Plato - Computer mind game. It is adapted ......
#10. Rings Of The Magi Add-Ons - Add-ons for the MVP Software game.
#11. SEGA Swirl - Puzzle game for PC and SEGA Dreamcast.
#12. 15Slide - An advanced version of the
#13. Supaplex - A VGA game .......
#14. Zooker - A software game based .......

These are single game listing (esp shareware) under a category higher than they deserve. They may be moved to

Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle: Downloads

The trick some of the develeopers / publishers / affiliates for games use is to create an information page for a single game, and get it listed in a major category. I think Listings like these ('Bejeweled Deluxe' , 'Rings Of The Magi Add-Ons' ) should be listed in categories below where their original / home pages will be listed. For example, bejeweled is a shareware Puzzle game, and if bejeweled deluxe shareware home page is listed then it will be under Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle: Downloads.
So its tips / Guide site should be listed under the same / a level below, if the listings are to be really useful.

A negative argument to justify my view will make it a bit more clear. If one is not intrested in shareware, ( and hence the game bejeweled) then he is definitely not intrested in one shareware game's Guide / Tips / Add on website (and hence bejeweled.info) . So dmoz will serve its purpose better if top level categories get ride of these sites (or push them behind). The same is true for reviews.

Also I dont want to sound cynical of many listings, but many categories under the Curlie - Games: Video Games: Puzzle are sharewares and those categories themselves should move to https://curlie.org/Games/Video_Games/Puzzle/shareware.

But I would like to see what editors think of my 'abuse report' of individual links.

PS: Sorry for my poor english. It isnt my first language. I also had to choose something to explain, so I chose one listing. I dont intent any harm to anyone or any particular listing.

Not all of what you mention is abuse. For one thing, Games/Video_Games makes extensive use of deeplinks. Another is that we like to have multiple sites to put into a new category. If there's no category for a games/company site (which is listable) and we can't find other sites for it, it will be put "one level up."

That said, it does look like a little clean-up is needed in this category. I'll put it on my "to-do" list.

One of the reasons the shareware sites are listed outside of the shareware sub-category is because the shareware category was moved into Games/ from the Computers/ tree awhile back to avoid overlapping. No one caught the sites outside of the new category to move them into it. So, it needs some TLC, but it isn't abuse, or even poor editing, just an oversight do to a category move.

I did not want it to sound like 'abuse', but since it comes under this forum I called it as 'abuse report'.

I do feel that all of 'above mentioned' are not a 100% desrving listing (IMHO), Since some categories specically fixes some limits (like atleast 25 reviews / games if want to be listed) and I feel one or two rare categoryless webistes could come under misc if they are less informative and under the main category if they are really useful to the visitor of that category. But the dmoz editors are the best one's to decide.

I couldnt find a description / submission Guidlines for puzzles. So my post is purely based on my perception of this category.

Many thanks for including it in your 'to do list'. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Please remember...

...the guidelines have evolved over time. What used to be listable may not pass muster if submitted today.
...once listed, the criteria for staying listed are much lower than when adding a new listing. As long as the content is still as described it will probably stay. We're much more concerned with domain hijacks.
...all editors are volunteers and aren't required to work at any particular pace or in any particular place. It seems that not too many editors have a passion for puzzle video games.

I've cleared the top-level of Games/Video_Games/Puzzles . If there are any further problems, let me know.
