HI!
ODP is THE directory when it comes to SEO...
I can accept that, there are may web pages and it takes time, But half of the German language ODP is returning "Service Temporarily Unavailable" giving me no chance to submit the site to the right category!
Wrong category = no inclusion

When will be a change in the situation?
Where elsewhere in ODP can I submit my site?
How are we suppose to work like this? (this last one is rhetorical question, the other 2 not!)

Look at the bright side.

(1) On the VERY bright side: you can't suggest sites to the wrong category either.

(2) On the everyday-brightness side: not suggesting a site has never prevented an editor from reviewing and listing it anyway.

(3) And on the Pollyanna-ish "at least it's darker for someone else" side, there are editors who normally review thousands of websites (and have thousands of edits) every week. Editors have lost several times your total lifetime in editing opportunities. You're so lucky YOUR server is up and available for development!

And for the sort of questions that everyone asks, you can check out our Announcements forum.

:D THX for the reply!

I only find it interesting that in for an organization like ODP is impossible to correct a problem, no mater how big it is, form September to November.
Oh well.. That's life! :(

Umm the problems that are plaguing the directory began near the end of October, so its only going on a few weeks not 3 months. That being said its still a problem and no one is more disappointed than the editors who work the trenches everyday. The problem is being actively worked on and hopefully sooner than later we can all get back to the project.

If you've worked on any kind of really complex system, you'll be familiar with the concept of "cascade failure." I think something like that happened here.

Those of us who have a vested interest in the site (due to our own personal commitments) would like to know more details. But those of us who have actually had to work on complex problems know how frustrating it is for the people actually doing the work to have to stop doing the work and explain what needs to be done to gawking people who are not actually doing anything to help.

So I sit on my hands and don't ask status questions, because I'd MUCH rather the people make the next status happen than tell me about the last one. (Enough stupid questions, asked at just the right times, can keep the next status from EVER happening!)

And I know the people who are working on the problem would prefer it that way also.
