I was wondering if one of you Guru DMOZ editors would be interested in writing an article on how to get listed in the directory? This would be for my webmaster resources site.

Good idea, but they are busy. I don't think that they have enouth time to do it.

There is no magic formula.

1. Have a useful website with unique content.
2. Submit the top-level URL to the single most appropriate category ONLY
3. Forget about the ODP

You can actually skip step 2 in many cases.
