goeurope.about.com/mmore.htm update

More than a year ago, my old "Venice for Visitors" link at http://goeurope.about.com/mmore.htm became obsolete. I haven't been affiliated with About.com since September 25, 2001, and in October, 2001 my copyrighted Venice for Visitors for Visitors content was relaunched at:
http://veniceforvisitors.com

I've submitted an update request at least twice over the past 14 months or so, and a while back I went up a couple of levels to e-mail an editor about the update request. (Unfortunately, the category doesn't have an editor.)

Now I've discovered that my replacement Europe guide at About.com has recreated a new Venice page at my old URL to capitalize on what his page refers to as an "outdated link." If even he admits that it's an outdated link, could DMOZ find a moment to update the link?

Again, the correct URL for "Venice for Visitors" is now http://veniceforvisitors.com. (This is a site, by the way, that PC Magazine has called "the premier visitors' guide to Venice, Italy."

BTW, the category in which the link appears is:
http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Italy/Regions/Veneto/Localities/Venice/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides/

Thanks,

Durant Imboden

The internal forum isn't the place for editors to ask for changes to be made to their sites, uzs980.

Since the about.com page even says it's an outdated link and the Venice content there isn't adequate for continued listing, I've gone ahead and deleted it. I've also deleted your update request (since there is no longer a site to update).

Regarding veniceforvisitors.com, well, as an editor you should know better than to submit a vanity URL -- you should have used http://europeforvisitors.com/venice. Personally, I would avoid listing your deeplink to Venice or any of the other city/country guides you have (since they are all intertwined and are all deeplinks of europeforvisitors.com) and just list the main europeforvisitors.com site in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Travel_and_Tourism/Travel_Guides -- I would recommend that you resubmit the main URL as noted above to that category.

Europe for Visitors is already listed. As for Venice for Visitors, it's quite different from my other city guides, none of which are listed (or should be listed) in DMOZ. It's a "site within a site" of nearly 500 pages that isn't at all integrated with the other Europe for Visitors content, since it began in 1997 as a freestanding site that predated Europe for Visitors by nearly a year. The editor who created the original (and now outdated) deeplink at goeurope.about.com/mmore.htm clearly felt that the site had unique content, and that users' interests would be best served by linking to the "site within a site."
