Is there any reason for a site to disappear from DMOZ after being there for 6 years? No tricks to the site, just a good site that has been well regarded over the years. Can't seem to find us anywhere now?
We have been the number one supplier of Inflatable Furniture for years?

Befuddled:confused:

There are innumerable reasons for a site that was listed to be removed. Some quick ones that come to mind would include:
  1. Site was found to be better suited in an more appropriate category so an editor moved it for re-evaluation.
  2. A site that was listed has changed focus and needs to be re-evaluated or is no longer listable according to the guidelines.
  3. An editor or one of the automated link checkers found the site to be non-functional and removed it for re-evaluation at a later date.
  4. The site was never listable in the first place and an editor is correcting a previous error.
  5. Any one of a dozen more reasons.
You may find your answer by reading the Guidelines.
Hope that helps.

<add> By the way, we don't allow the posting of URL's in the forum for the purpose of a status check (which we no longer provide), I don't have permissions to remove the URL but I expect that when someone who does comes along it will be edited. You might want to remove it yourself. <end add>

And, while this may or may not apply to your site, it is important to note that no site is guaranteed a listing in perpetuity.

As an editor, I randomly re-examine sites that are already listed to confirm that they still meet our listing requirments. Those requirement have, in a number of areas, become stricter in time, so it is not all that unusual for a site that was listed a long time ago to no longer be eligible for a listing -- especially if the content has been relatively static.

Re-Submit?

Should we re-submit as we seem to be within the guidelines, or should we wait to see if it has been removed for evaluation to another catagory?

Please don't, it isn't necessary. If the site is just being moved to another category it will just cause an editor extra work to delete it. If the site no longer meets the guidelines, again, it will just cause extra work to delete it. If the site was unlisted because it was non-functional, it will be rechecked without a new suggestion.

Anyway to check the status to see if that is the case?
Would really like to know as we have tried to be one of the Upstanding sites on the internet :)

Yes, so it goes. You never understood us ... You never called while you were listed ... you never did anything to help us accomplish our mission ... that's fine, you had your life to live ... and you still do. We'll get along fine, but thanks for remembering.

I had a site that was listed for 2 years, that I did not even submit myself. While it was listed I did call and I did try and help. Now my site has been removed and it has newer and fresher unique content than ever.

Dmoz is a strange beast.

Sites can be removed for several reasons

1) it was unavailable for some time -> the site was removed from public view and an editor needs to check what the problems are and decide to relist (maybe with new url) or permanantly delete site
2) the sites doesn't meet current guidelines (either site or guidelines changed) -> editor has deleted site
3) site now better fits in an other category -> editor has moved the site to this other category were it is now waiting review
