Google Dropping DMOZ Pages?

This might stem from the DMOZ outage earlier this year but for some reason, the url that my site is listed on in the dmoz does not show in Google. BUT...the toolbar pr is there. How could it have pr if it isn't even listed in Google? So I did a check and I found tons and tons of urls that have apparantly been dropped by Google. Does anyone know what is going on? Thanks.

You might wish to ask Google.

We have a special relationship with Google: we don't tell them what we are doing and they don't tell us what they are doing. Works perfectly! :D:D:D

Seriously, we are simply not privvy to what they are doing or why.

Could it be that google is replacing dmoz directories with their own versions due to some duplicate content rules ? I just noticed the same change with the ODP site I maintain -- it was first in certain searches -- now, google version (old content) is on first page, but not ODP original site -- google version is also not first, as the original ODP page was.

No I doubt, Google is confused these days, "Thats the Simplest Answer I think of".

Google started updating their copy of the Directory a couple of weeks ago.

The update is only on a few Google datacentres so far.

It's about time!! I think the ODP has gotten a bum rap in the past because Google didn't update regularly and the SEO's put the blame on the editors when the results were outdated.

What any of the 1000+ downstream users of ODP data do with the data, and when, is outside of the editors' control...

It may be because of recent URL canonicalisation activity here. All the dmoz domains have been set to redirect to: http://www.dmoz.org/

Previously most dmoz categories listed in google were in the form: http://dmoz.org/

So the dmoz.org ones may have dropped out of the listings because google is figuring out the 301 redirects.

This is speculation however - I have no real idea what google does :)

Actually, that sounds quite logical. I recently noticed that my editor profile (which usually was in the search results without www.) is now missing. Probably Google needs some time to realize the new URLs.

I think you'd probably have to ask Google how exactly they update their copy.

Did you ever think that it might be because of the major problems that dmoz is having. You can no longer even except the email that comes from folks that are upset with the way that they have been treated. So these people because of being turned away from here go and post on Google. You can not treat that many people like crap and expect to keep smelling like a rose. Google is just the beginning. They are also posting on Yahoo and dozens of other places. I went to post my feelings about what I was feeling. It was not necessary thousands of people already had. Get with it people! I originaly felt that the open directory project would be the device to save the internet from capital abuse and conflict of interest. Maybe my hopes were too high.
