Google's use of DMOZ site description

We have recently removed our <meta name="description"> and <meta name="keywords"> tags in hopes of Google using often updated text on our index page for their description of our site <url removed> formerly know as and listed in dmoz as "Qingdao Travel & Living Guide".

It seems that Google uses dmoz's site description when the main page of a, well indexed, large site removes the <meta name="description"> tag. However, Google does use the text of our content pages for their description of the page.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?
How can this issue be resolved?

We have no control over Google's choice of description (and neither do you) but you can prevent it from using ours. Put this in your header.

Thanks Jim. The dmoz directory information is highly valued by most all search engines. We appreciate all the hard work that every member of dmoz has done for the online community.

I'd rather let the bots still use dmoz info. So today I have suggested a change for our dmoz site info. It needed to be updated anyway.

Google actually does use the site description in the meta tags, at least that's the experience we've had.
