have I inadvertently 'spammed' the DMOZ

Hi,
my first posting ....
I have made a submission to DMOZ for my company website to be accepted.
Hopefully I have submitted correctly, and to the correct categorie.

I hope it gets included -
but in the meantime I have been doing manual submissions to various Uk business directories
and have also submitted to Yahoo & Google Directories.

I have since discovered that Yahoo & Google actually use DMOZ as their source.

Have I then submitted 3 times to DMOZ ?
and if so, could I be accused of spamming, - which was not my intention ..

So would it be better to somehow withdraw my Yahoo & Google submissions,
and how would I do this.

I can supply our url if needed.
any help gratefully accepted.
regards,
Kevin

Call that spamming :) ? We shrug that sort of thing off without worrying about it (and neither should you). If you become an editor, we can show you what real spamming is.

Yahoo is a totally separate directory.

If you are suggesting the site to the same category each time with the same url but via a different site (e.g. Google directory), then all that will happen is that the old suggestion will be overwritten by the new one so there is no problem.

Despite our reputation, we are fairly tolerant of the human mistakes that invariably occur now and then :)

By spamming we mean people suggesting to multiple different categories, suggesting multiple deeplinks to their site and so on.

Your concern is appreciated though

regards

Hi again,

gentlemen ! ... thank you
your comments have taken a weight off my mind and are really appreciated.

particularly for 'Crowbar' -
Your comment re editing surprised me ...
but despite being semi-retired and having the time available, I am afraid that my lack of knowledge would disbar me if I did volunteer.

thanks again.

I'm only following meta editor jimnobles lead, kevbro, if that's what he meant.

I think you already have one of the most important qualities, honesty. :) I only have one year of high school, and a lifetime of experience, so you don't need to be a rocket scientist to be a good editor.

kevbro, you're very ignorant ... about a lot of things. I know that, because everyone is--we're all just ignorant about different things.

The first point is to focus on things you know about (and everyone knows about SOMETHING.)

You almost certainly know about your own hometown -- you know that Park Street ends at Main Street, and addresses on "South Park Street" are fictitious. You know there's a Catholic parish on West Fifth Avenue, and a Flower Shop at Seventh and Main; your plumber has a website, and so does the local high school. And so forth.

You may be a member of any number of organizations, professional, social, commercial, or religious. If you've been a member for a few years, you'll know about some of the neighboring sister-organizations.

Or--you may have hobbies, whether they are building telescopes and looking for comets, or growing orchids, or playing Count-Pound'em 3 on your Atari. Or you waste your time watching TV, movies, music videos, talk radio, football, or pro wrestling.

The second point is, you're looking for websites created by people who know MORE about the subject than you do. (There's no rule against learning something from a website you review. If you can't learn anything from a website, it's probably not a good candidate for listing anyway.)

What really matters is, that you like to look at websites about a particular subject, and you can recognize unique information on a website (even if you have to look for other websites with that information first!)

I'm interested in building up small localities and getting every website that qualifies listed, so that small community is represented on the Internet map and can compete fairly with other communities. :)

I also have a new hobby, wildlife water gardens, so finding and listing sites dealing with that Topic is very helpful and interesting for me to do, and I feel like I'm creating a useful resource for other people interested in that subject.

I don't know a lot about the subject, but, I do know what kind of information I'm looking for, and what I find unique and valuable, :D .
