Help In Determining Appropriate Category

I have tried to submit my site about a month ago to the best category; however, the products my site sells could fit in a few different sub categories under the main category of, "Shopping". I had read the FAQ and it suggested that I may use the forums to get help from an editor in determining the best category. With your permission, I would like to post the URL and a brief description in hopes of determining the best category.

Thank you,
Josh

That's not a service that we offer here, but I'd be amazed to find a Shopping site that has to go at top level. Sites with an extremely wide product range go in Shopping/General_Merchandise/'some letter'.

I take it you've read our submission guidelines at http://dmoz.org/add.html and noted our attitude to the submission of related websites as described in the second paragraph of Step One.

Thank you for your prompt response. I did not post my site to the top level of the directory, but rather to a specific category that I felt was best suited for my site. Also I have read the submission steps, but I am not completely clear on why you specifically mentioned the rules governing posting sites with the same or similar content. Is this a recommendation suggesting I should not attempt to post my site again in a different category?

Thank you,
Josh

That is correct. If eligible, your site will only be listed once in any given branch of the directory. If the reviewing editor feels there is a category in Shopping that better fits your site, it will be moved and listed to the best possible category to encompass all that you sell. It is considered spamming to suggest the site to more than one category in the same branch.

However, that being said, if you have a physical store, then you are eligible to also suggest the site to the Regional branch to the actual location that the store resides, not where you market.
