Hijacked Domain

Hello,

Here is a short story: Our domain <url removed> was hijacked by a hosting provider. They ordered us to pay one time fee (several handred dollars) for a lease and shut down the website for 2 weeks. They said that the domain is no longer ours but theirs. As a result of a shutdown i noticed that we are kicked off from DMOZ.
Before that the domain was in dmoz since several years.

Now it is back online but we expect rogue hosting provider coming again soon with other requests for money so we have a new domain: <url removed>

Is it possible to put it back to dmoz without going through the whole new process? The website was refreshed and new content was added recently so it is better then before. Was it just suspended or removed?

Thus is is still not to late to update it and place it back into DMOZ?

Thank for any responses.

Chris.

Ps. Some info about that Hosting provider from other victims can be found here if any1 is interested <url removed>

Other than in the Quality Control forum which concentrates on removing/fixing bad listings, posting here doesn't expedite processing. If it did, we'd be swamped in a heartbeat.

If you haven't already done so, the best thing to do is suggest your new URL to the appropriate category.

well I asked the same questions in Quality control forum. I see now that my post was removed. I am not sure why. Did i violated some rules? My first post is still on forums though. I would expect to get some general sugestions how to deal with situation like mine. Thanks.

Chris.

I don't think jimnoble was suggesting you ask the question again there. Rather he was offering a reply to your question.

The answer was no, there is no way to expedite a listing. Nothing posted on these forums will directly effect listings with the exception jimnoble provided which was bad listings mentioned in that other thread will normally result in a quick quality control actions.

There is only one real suggestion we can offer you and its what jimnoble already said:

With all the respect but: I didnt ask to expedite anything. Instead I asked a few specific questions about a removal from DMOZ listing. I know that there are a lot of people begging for fast listing and i do understand that this forum in not about it.

Your response and response of jimnoble was not response to my questions. If you dont know or dont want to give your answers I think it would be better to leave questions open so other people can answer.

Here are the questions again:

1. Is it possible to put back dmoz listing removed because of a domain being down for 2 weeks?
2.What happens when DMOZ notices that a listing is death: suspends it or removes it ?

Again, I do understand that DMOZ is run by volunteers and that people posting here do favours sharing their suggestions. I didnt intend to create impression that i want somebody to deal with my problem. sorry for the confusion.

Chris.

If the site was delisted because it was down at the time it was checked, then an editor checking it later may relist it when they notice that it is available again. Since we don't deal with specific sites here, your only way to make sure that the new URL is seen by an editor would be to suggest it to the category again, which is what jimnoble recommended you do in his post. So you see, he did answer your question.

:) Ok. lets say you both answered my question. However, I find it helpfull what you said:

"If the site was delisted because it was down at the time it was checked, then an editor checking it later may relist it when they notice that it is available again. "

You may want to re-read your original post, the question I see asked was:

The answer was (and still is ;) ); No, nothing posted in this or any other forum will expedite the normal processes. And as we don't address specific sites, the second part of the question cannot be answered here beyond the general information that motsa mentioned.

This is a perfect example of why you register your domain yourself rather than letting a host register it. If you do it yourself then you can be sure it is in your name and cannot be "held hostage".

In any event if a reegistrar tried this sort of extortion, you should report them directly to ICANN if it was a gTLD or the appropriate national authority if it was a ccTLD. It may not help get your domain back, but it might prevent it happening in future.
