Can a travel editor please re-review Hotel.us (www.hotel.us)?
A few months ago my site was reviewed and rejected on the grounds that it appeared to be an affiliate site. I then made the argument that most travel sites use non-proprietary booking engines and that alone shouldn't categorize someone as an affiliate. To draw a line at an eCommerce site using non-proprietary suppliers of product would draw a fundamental line between storefronts and suppliers of all genres - almost no eCommerce site would then meet such criteria...not even Amazon.com. Anyway, I was told if I could prove that I have control over my booking system then I would be not be considered to be just an affiliate and I would be reconsidered for a listing.
After further inquiry I was told that if I could offer specials, on reservations, that would suffice. I have since added two new specials. The 'free weekend' special is exclusive to my site. People are automatically entered to win a free weekend when they reserve a hotel through my site. This requires handling of my own booking system that a mere affiliate would not have.
On these grounds, can I please be reconsidered for listing in DMOZ? I spent a *great* deal of time developing this site ... I can't imagine that any affiliate site should take this much time to develop.
Thanks.
