Hi all,

How can I apply to a category that already has an editor?

Is the acceptance rate low for a newbie that wants to apply to a category that already has an editor?

Please advice.

Thanks in advance.

Click on the large gray-and-green "become an editor" bar stretching across the bottom of the screen.

And if you can find three good sites to add, and really believe you can find 20 more, then we don't care how many editors the category already has: there's obviously enough work for one more.

Thanks for your reply! Is it difficult for a new editor to be accepted into a category that already has an editor?

Normally that is nothing we consider, no.

If we should feel that there is nothing more to do in a category, because the old editor already did it all, we maybe would reject the application - but in that case you most likely wouldn't apply ;-)

:) Thanks windharp for your reply! Approximately how long before a new editor(after being accepted to edit a smaller category) can apply for a bigger category?

Approximately until he has convinced us that he is ready for more. :)

:)

Expanding on that a bit - I've occasionally seen editors who have obviously read and re-read the guidelines prior to joining, been accepted as an editor, worked through the category adding 20+ good sites per guidelines, and then applied and get accepted to another category all on the same day they were joined. Then there are the rest of us ... ;)

Re: How can I apply to category that already has a

I remember (it was only five years ago) how impatient I was to get that second category, and then to start reorganizing Arts/Literature and Society/Religion&Spirituality.

Fortunately, I had almost 50 URLs ready to add, and a lot of learning (complete with trials-and-errors-and-repairs) about writing descriptions, so I was able to find something to do until the Powers-That-Be recognized my innate qualities.

Based on that experience (which, except for some of the more lofty elements of hubris, all experienced editors share) the internal forums are full of tips on staying busy until recognition comes, or even on developing qualities that may not have been all that innate after all. We do want you addicted to editing: we'll try to get you in as deep as you can stand, as quickly as we can trust you to avoid the grosser solecisms.
