How can I get listed?

To whom it may concern,

I've been trying to get my site listed (www.candlegalaxy.com) for sometime now. Can someone please let me know what the issue is with my site. I don't believe I'm breaking any rules, but cant seem to get my site listed.

Please help. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

No you are not breaking any rules, but your site is unlistable in the ODP, I'm afraid, since the goods it offers are available on many other sites. Please note that this is not my individual opinion, but that of the reviewing editor(s).

Nobody (except an editor) can "get a site listed." The ODP is not set up for that. "Submit a URL" means "recommend that an editor look at this site for potential inclusion in this category."

Once you've done that, you've really done all you can do. The editors take it from there.

I think there's a lot of misunderstanding on this point. I don't see why: the ODP is no different in this respect from, say, Yahoo, who takes your money to REVIEW (not LIST) your site.

If you're looking for someone to not take your money but list your site, there are zillions of FFALF's out there. If you're looking for someone to list your site quickly (for money), there are lots of ways to pay, and lots of people that will take your money regardless of your site's value to visitors -- Overture, Looksmart, etc. But in that respect the ODP is different. It doesn't do any of those things.

OK, so the "Yankee Candle" product are offered on other sites. What does this have to do with my site? Why would it NOT be listed? We own a small store in NJ and one of the lines of candles we offer is from Yankee Candles. We plan on adding other things to the site. I see many other sites with "Yankee Candle" products listed and they did not have the same issue.

Can an editor please review my position and post here for me please....

Have a look at our Site Selection Criteria. http://www.yankeecandle.com/ is already listed in Shopping: Home and Garden: Accessories: Candles: Scented. So you won't be listed in any Shopping category, because you probably don't offer anything that they don't offer.

So you have an actual store that you can walk into and buy something. If you may mention this on your site (perhaps in a more prominent place, including opening hours and so on), you might be considered for a listing in the category of your locality: Regional: North America: United States: New Jersey: Localities: C: Chester: Business and Economy.
