How can I tell IF there is an editor at all

I have tried to submit a very specialized tie-dye site to DMOZ - without any success - nothing after way more than a year. In the category where this site should be in - Top: Shopping: Clothing: Casual: Tie Dye - there are only a few entries, so it does not seem to be a very crowded area. The idea jumped at me that there just is no editor at all for this category and the site submission might just sit there and get stale, rot even.
About a half a year later I thought it might be a good idea to give back to the community and offer to help editing - sure the thought also in my mind that I could do something for the site I submitted just by getting to know other editors and being an insider (tricky, I know ;-) - but nothing, I got rejected (wonder if there are any psychics in the team who sensed the egotistical part of my motivation.)
So, any idea somebody, why an authoritative site - #1 on google for mudmee tie-dye - does not make it into DMOZ?
Could it be that nobody ever looks into this category?

how would I get this again

Thank you so much for the reply.
I looked through all my email but can not find any more the rejection of my application for editor. Do you know if there is any way to retrieve the info I got then?
I don't actually remembering there were any points made that I could have done - I believe this is is why I had turned my back in disappointment.
