how do I know if I've been rejected?

I applied to be an editor (my 3rd time trying) on February 21. I received the confirmation email that said I was in the queue and have not heard any word since. The first two times I was rejected I received the form letter "you have chosen a category that is already well represented, or is broader than we typically assign to a new editor" within a few weeks. I took that feedback literally and chose a new category that is as far down the line as possible and says that it needs an editor.

Since it has been more than 6 weeks since I sent my latest application, I thought maybe I had been rejected without notice so I tried to reapply this morning. My application was not accepted because I have an "application pending". Does that mean that I am still being considered and if so what is the usual time frame for accepting or rejecting editor applications?

Any insights into this process are greatly appreciated!!

That is precisely what it means. As far as time frame it depends on:
- the new application queue (which varies from about 50 - 1000 new applications at any one time)
- how many metas are doing new apps at any particular time (we're volunteers and have real lives)
- if your application is for a category in a language other than English, it may take more time as there are less metas in those areas

Generally speaking a poor application takes less time to process then a good one. Each application varies in terms of length of time on many factors and can take a meta anywhere from a few seconds to a full 8 hours to go through. As a result of all of these factors it is impossible to tell you how long it will take, however we try and get them done in a timely manner.

thanks for the input. The category I applied for is in English so I guess I have that going for me. I'll sit back and wait.

no, I applied with a different user name. I received a note from another meta yesterday afternoon who suggested I try applying with a different user name and different email address. I just did as they suggested and the application was accepted. My only worry is since my app was "lost" the last time what is keeping it from getting "lost" again?
