The directions for submitting...are terrible. I have jumped from page to page reading all of these instructions and tips. Now I need to submit my website. Where do you go to do this? This is very irritating.

Not anywhere in here.

Start at http://www.dmoz.org/ - spend time choosing the correct category, then read http://www.dmoz.org/add.html

Then go to that single category and submit your site.

I can only imagine you've chosen a category without one. Go on to the most appropriate subcategory, and keep going in until you find the most specific category that could fit.

I chose my niche keyword. I typed in direct marketing...and all it does is go to all of the already listed websites. Where do I go from here?

Why is it recommended that you do not submit a redirect page? I am curious...

Because we have chosen not to list redirects, so suggesting a redirect makes more work for us and slows down listing.

It's our site, we dont tell you what to put on your site, you can't tell us what to put on ours. Argueing about whether redirects are good or bad will not change anything, accept thats what we do and move on. Note this also applies to framed redirects, cloaking, or any other form of disguising the actual place the files are served from.

Actually, bobrat gave you misinformation. Do not submit your site to a category that it is completely irrelevent for it in the hopes that an editor will move it to the right spot. That would be very inappropriate. I'd suggest you take the time to find the right category for your site and submit it there.
