How do we know if an Editor will review a category?

First off, I, like many people that post on this forum, have listed a website years ago, and still have not received approval or denial. After reading many of the DMOZ admin responses as to why it takes so long to review websites, I completely understand that DMOZ staff reviews the submissions for free, has no time requirements, and therefore it can take a long, long time for a website to obtain approval. I'm fine with that!

My concern is knowing whether there is actually an Editor around that will review my submission. When I check out the category of:
Top: Regional: North America: United States: Florida: Localities: H: Hialeah: Business and Economy: Real Estate

I notice only 1 submission was every approved (in that category), and the very bottom of the page say "Last update: Monday, February 23, 2009 5:28:34 AM EST", and just above it states "Volunteer to edit this category."

Based upon the above, can someone tell me whether this category still has an editor assigned, and/or whether my submission won't get reviewed until someone is assigned to this specific category.

Unusually, the last edited date is correct.

This is not a workplace and we don't assign editors to categories. Rather, volunteer editors request editing permissions in categories that interest them. There is no editor with specific permissions in that category but there are named editors higher up the category tree who can work there. Also, around 200 of us who can edit any category that we choose - and we do :).

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Thanks for the explanation! While your response to my question was fast, I could only hope that one day DMOZ volunteers would review website submissions with such speed :D

I was on a 10 minute break from editing. Even volunteers are entitled to those. I could have completely ignored you and talked to the wife or dog instead - much more rewarding.

I don't know if my prior message came across the right way, but I appreciated your fast and informative response, and was just joking about wishing DMOZ volunteers worked as fast as you did with me. Nevertheless, I equally agree that talking to my wife or dog is more rewarding than responding to everyone on this forum.

I don't know about the talking to the wife part being more rewarding, lol.
