Hi All

I am a bit puzzled here. When i type in the search box, the name of companies I see already listed on dmoz.org, they don't show up in the search result.

Am I doing something wrong

cheers

The search is mostly for finding categories, it only works on URL/title/description - nothing from the site itself. It is not a full function search.

It also will not reflect that latest changes to the sites added or changed recently, and may be anywhere from several days to weeks behind.

Additionally, it sometimes behaves odd when you use multiple special characters in one query (In fact anything that does ot count as "letter") - so try to remove those from your query.

I just found that that in addtion to the above, there is currently a problem with the search system and it's being worked on.

The search system has had a problem for a while. It is not meant for public search. That is obvious. Something to understand is though we at dmoz are really keeping a low profile, we don't need millions searching us as that would just mean more servers and more resources. We are a volunteer project on a budget. We do a good job with what we got though and it is good that dmoz.org search does not work that well. imho. Goto frequently updated data users and try there searches. dmoz.org data is freely downloaded and used on many a website with different types of searches. Google is good searching on its directory (dmoz data) but it is not that up to date.
