The most common reasons for sites not being found:

1) The site / server was down for a period of time, and our automated linkchecker removed it temporarily for recheck.
2) The site was re-reviewed by an editor and it was decided that it would be better placed somewhere else. In that case it may have been moved to the unreviewed pile in the new category and now awaiting review there.
3) The site might have been listed by accident and never have been listable according to our guidelines.
4) Since this very often was the case before, I need to mention it: Please don't confuse suggesting a site (which is something you do) and listing a site (which is something only editors do). If you have not actually seen your site in a category on http://dmoz.org/ , it never was listed by an editor.

You can't. And unless you're an editor you can't possibly know whether or not possibility (2) above occured.

There's also at least two more possibilities to add to the list:

5) The title and description of the original listing didn't meet our editorial guidelines. The site was later found by someone else and send back to be re-reviewed by the original editor.

6) The site was de-listed by mistake, since an editor thought that one of the other options above applied.

Though they're pretty unlikely compared with the others.

I'm afraid that you'll just have to be patient, assuming what you've said above is accurate. If you're site is listable, it will almost certainly currently be waiting in the unreviewed pool of a suitable category, and at some point a volunteer editor will come along, review it, and publish it. Since all editors volunteers and there are a lot of suggested sites waiting to be reviewed, I'm afraid there's no way we can offer any sort of timescale, or provide any way for certain sites to be given priority.

If windharp's option #2 or #3 had happened, how would you have known it?

In my experience, windharp #3 is the most common, but, of course, every case is reviewed on its own, not processed randomly based on set percentages -- so that really don't tell us much.

I'm pretty sure it's #3 :D.

ge_or_gi might like to reread our submission guidelines at http://dmoz.org/add.html , paying particular attention to step one. It forbids the submission of related websites and outlines the penalties that can be applied should it be ignored.

Someone losing their job because their site is not listed in DMOZ is pretty much an impossibility. A listing in the directory is just a link - if your site goes downhill that far because of just one link, then you haven't been doing your advertising job sufficiently. That has nothing to do with the ODP.

If number 3 (above) is indeed the reason for the site's removal, then it won't be getting re-listed at all. You can read our editorial guidelines on site selection to see what sort of sites are and aren't listable. If the site is listable, then as explained above, there's nothing you can do, and you'll just have to wait like everyone else who has suggested a site for inclusion.

I'm afraid that you'll just have to explain to who-ever gets to decide about your job, that a site's listing in the ODP is something that's beyond your control -- point them to this forum if you like.

Making a business or job plan that's dependent on the work of unpaid volunteers, is rather imprudent. I'd recommend switching to plan "B", instanter.

Plan "B" is by definition off-topic. Not that this is necessarily the best place to get non-ODP-related advice.

It's important to remember that whatever we'd do for your company, we'd do -- just as fast or faster -- for your competitors.

re inclusion is just like initial inclusion -- make a suggestion in the category you think is most appropriate.

Sometime (usually later) an editor will look at the suggestion, review the website, then decide what to do.

You can't check suggestions.

If you haven't suggested it yourself, then suggest it. If you have, then don't.

Everything else, the editor will take care of.

The first thing you have to do, ge_or_gi, is to wait for the current server problems to be fixed. It is not possible to check if the site is currently listed or not until the server is back. (The directory you see now is a copy which is several weeks old. If your site was added in the weeks after that copy was taken, you can't see it now, but when the server returns, the more recent data will also return.)

You also can't suggest your site until the servers are fixed. There will be information here about what's going on with the servers.

In the meantime, there is nothing else you can do. We're also waiting for the servers to return so we can go back to editing....

Thank you. {moz}
