That thread is over a month old and closed. I think many of us are wondering if there is any new information.

I have been patiently waiting to apply as an editor and check the site every day. I am sure many people are having a hard time understanding why the editors are not in the loop.

After a month of technical issues, surely you can understand the site status inquiries.

No, I'm totally unable to understand them. What were you thinking when you asked? "Yes, I know a hundred people have asked this same question this week, and the editors told the first ninety-nine of them that they didn't know. But I'm sure if I ask the question just once more, they will break down, compelled by my eloquence and forceful personality, and tell me all the secrets they have so long and so carefully guarded?"

Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. There are thousands of editors, and hundreds of casual passers-by, who want to know the answer. We don't have an e-mail list, so we'll post what we know when we know it.

But my guess, based on my own experience dealing with extremely complex problems, is that we'll only know when the site will be up a few hours after it actually is up.

The only new information which could actually be used by non-editors is when site suggestions, Update requests, and editor applications are again possible.
I presume it is also of interest to non-editors to know when editors are once again able to add sites, review suggestions, and undertake quality control.

All volunteer editors are of course very keen to hear good news about all these areas.

None of the above functions are possible as yet, which is why the thread has not been updated. When one or more of them is restored, the news will be passed on, and there will be great rejoicing. :)

Point of clarity, the Announcement thread is locked to prevent hijacking and off topic posts. It is only for informational purposes not for carrying on long discussions. The forum administrators are the only ones who can and will be posting in that thread and they will be updating it as often as the rest of us are updated. You can assume that the thread contains the most currently available information that any of us have, and when we hear something more it will be updated there.

Thanks.

Maybe some would have felt it more useful if there had been a "no news today" post posted each day in that thread.

It wouldn't look so old, and would still convey no more and no less information.

As a web application designer and architect, I don't see how any technical problem affecting such a simple piece of web software which has, after all, run smoothly for years, could account for this amount of downtime. The problem is probably down to money, e.g. they can't afford to pay for their servers hence the lack of anything except static content which costs a lot less to keep online.

It's not exactly a simple piece of web software.

which has, after all, run smoothly for years
And it hasn't run smoothly for years. We've had other problems over the years, just nothing this extensive.

umm hmmm Well, you're just looking at static content so I suppose I can see how you might make the leap to thinking that what you see is all there is.

But, hey, didn't I say before I was going to be a hard ass and nip all conspiracy theory type posts in the bud before they really got going? I think this qualifies so pardon me while I close it. :D
