Hi,

Like many others I am waiting for my site to be reviewed by an editor. Can you tell me how many editors there are and what the current backlog is. I just want to know what kind of task you editor guys have.

Regards

Why? Of what possible use is that knowledge? It will not allow you to establish a 'Mean Time To Review' or know when a particular site may be actioned by any editor.

Sites are reviewed when someone gets around to it, that's the only valid answer we can provide.

It's a lot more than just handling unreveiwed. It's a lot more interesting. :)

Well, we can't give you much of an estimate. But here's how you could calculate it yourself.

How many sites are on the web?

How many have we reviewed? (answer: about 10-20 million)

How many are left?

Notice that the number of unreviewed site submittals doesn't enter the calculation at all, as it well shouldn't. It's irrelevant for all purposes whatsoever, because it bears no relationship whatsoever to the number of actual sites waiting review.

Some sites have never been submitted.

Some sites have been submitted many times.

Some non-sites have been submitted (often VERY many times.)

See, there's no logical or arithmetical connection whatsoever.

Added later: my personal estimate is that there are almost certainly between 6 and 10 million listable, findable sites on the net right now (of which we have between 4 and 5 million listed). If we looked at all the unreviewed queue, we might add 10% to our total; another 20-50% is still out there, waiting to be found.

There must be a great number of people who don't even know that a site may be listed in a search engine. Many just put their curricula on their sites, then pass on the address to friends or possible employers, for them to visit and read. Am I right?

Well, a lot of people don't submit their site to search engines. There might be various reasons for that, but I guess a lot of sites, such as personal sites aimed at family or friends simply don't need to be submitted to a search engine, since the targeted audience will get the URL via email, or word-of-mouth.
