In this forum, are signatures reserved for editors? If not, how can an outsider such as myself set a signature?

Only editors are allowed to have signatures.

Boo!

Boo! I wanted a signature saying that I am not an editor.

Umm-you could just end your posts like 'ole'
Let's not start doing that. There is no need for former editors to have pseudo signatures that say they're former editors.

The fact that a former editor's user "rank" is Member should say all that needs to be said.

If you are going to comment on a post, mentioning that you used to be an editor lends some credibility to what you are saying. I've only signed off that way when replying to never-been-editors. I think. Besides I'm proud of my contribution to ODP as an editall even if I no longer log in so I can't see the problem with retaining the association.

What exactly does it say motsa? Never been an editor? Chucked out? Retired honorably? Taking a break? Not welcome here anymore (that's the way it comes across anyway)?

I seem to recall that when you had a spell as an former editor you retained a different rank and continued to contribute here. Forgive me then if your comment sounds a bit hypocritical.

Never mind... time to take a break from here too methinks...
:pirate: (or is that to be discouraged too)

You are right that it would be hypocritical if I had done that but I didn't -- your recollection is faulty. I was busted back to member here just like everyone else who resigns as an editor, with no other rank or privileges...and I never used a pseudo-signature. I did have an explanation of my then-current/then-previous member ranks in my profile (under Occupation, IIRC) -- perhaps that's what you're misremembering. You're welcome to do that as well.

All I mentioned here was pseudo-signatures. I never said you weren't welcome to contribute here as a member.

That comment of mine that you're quoting was in response to jdaw1's desire to have a signature saying he is not an editor. Read it in the context in which it was intended.

So you didn't have a forum function/role just above the Member rank? Which implies credibility in responses over and above Member.

Immediately before you had a dig clearly aimed in my direction.

But does it really matter... on either score...

No, I didn't have a forum function or role just above Member rank. I posted as a plain old member, though, just like you, one with prior insider knowledge of the ODP. How much weight anyone reading my posts at that time chose to give those posts, though, was up to them.

The presence of one comment preceding another is irrelevant. What is relevant is the comment that I was responding to.
