how to change my company name

Hi - I inherited the site interwise.com about 30 months ago. Some years before, the company had been named Interwise Millennium- which is the name currently listed in dmoz.

All I want to do is remove the "Millennium" from the name in the listing. I have sent many requests starting in 2006 to get this done. Perhaps they were killed off due to some sort of keyword-stuffing fear as I added in a current company description. The fact is, as long as google is pulling information from dmoz, it would be fantastic to at least have the proper company name appear.

What is the best way to proceed?

Update requests will be rejected if
° the website does not show that the request is valid
° the update is not compliant with DMOZ guidelines (like keyword stuffing)

OK - thanks. Is there any way to know if I was rejected, other than never seeing the change made?

No, there isn't.

So - my best and only course of action is to re-submit a change request after a period of time?

I do not want to annoy editors. I do not want to keyword-stuff.

I want only the proper company name to appear. Mostly so I can stop getting asked about it in the office.

Always remember, a suggestion is only a suggestion: an editor can always take it or leave it. But an editor has no choice about fairly representing what's actually on the website. The self-description ON the website is more influential, but still doesn't rule.

But the CONTENTS of the website--that matters.

So the way to get a particular description on an ODP listing is to ensure that's the verbiage which springs naturally to a surfer who has just visited the site and is describing it to another surfer.

"That's the ABC Manufacturing Company website. It has their catalog of nursery furnishings and dueling instruments, a list of retail stores that sell them, and an extraordinarily pompous mission statement."

(OK, he probably wouldn't mention the mission statement, because nobody would miss it if it weren't there.)

A home page with a heading that said "ABCMC" would be the place to start on that description. A few words about Azariah Benson Campbell and why he designs both nursery-mobile music-boxes and sharp pointy objects would help set the stage for any surfer, not just the ODP's volunteer reviewer. Links labelled something like "Dueling Instruments", "Nursery Furnishings", "Our Mission", and "Find our products in your neighborhood stores" would help shape expectations.

One other question - if in my particular category where I am trying to change the name - is it possible that there is no editor? At the bottom of the page, it says 'volunteer to edit this category' where on other pages I see an editor name. Could that be part of my issue?

If there is no *listed* editor name in the category, that doesn't matter, as many editors can edit anywhere in the directory.

I noticed that Interwise has moved to its new category, and the millennium is gone. Thanks very very much to whoever made this happen.

It's likely that whoever did it, probably hadn't read this thread. But whoever did it, I'm sure, he was grateful for the information you gave.
