Hi, I'm trying to write the best site suggestion I can for a website but I'm not sure about the wording I'm about to submit because the site represents:

* information about a brand of multiple products
* but the products are not for sale on the site
* the site is named for and deals only with the brand
* but the products are manufactured by a certain company represented by a completely different site

Can anyone offer a crit?

My Suggestion:

Category: /Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/*Something*/Product_Type/

Title: Brand X
Description: Brand X Widgets, Wodgets, and Wadgets information, manufactured by ABC

If I title it ABC, it doesn't make sense because no one associates the products with the company . . . no one has ever heard of the company, really . . . but all the other listings in the category read, "Company Name - Manufacturers such and such..." and, at the same time, I think I would be wrong to submit it to any other category.

Thinking really hard on this one, possibly over-thinking. ;) Any help much appreciated.

Sounds like it might not belong in Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Materials_and_Supplies/*Something*/Product_Type/ at all, though the manufacturer's site probably would.

We generally don't list "product line" sites. We link to the company site; presumably the company knows how to link to all the relevant material on its products.

Thank you, all. I'm reading a similar thread that has some interesting points about how "parent company" sites deserve listing while "product sites" do not.

I can see everyone's logic but, of course, I'm biased because I have interest in the sites I'm trying to get listed. I'm inclined to latch on to pvgool's comment and follow up, positing that the "parent company's" site should be listed under /Business/.../Materials_.../ because the parent company provides the product to distributors and builders and that the "product line" site should be listed under /Home/Consumer_Information/ because the "product line" site provides information about the brand of products.

I'm looking at the DMOZ listing(s) for a certain world-famous bubbly beverage. This particular product is apparently so popular it has its own category named for it. This company is in a league of its own for sure but, still, the product's "parent company" site is not listed in DMOZ and the "product line" site is . . . because it wouldn't make sense to do it the other way around - that "product line" site is the more important, better-known, legacy site.
