Hi,

My web site - www.findservices.com - is an directory for services (as opposed to products, which there seems to be endless numbers of...). It covers multiple verticals: Dating, Travel, Diet&Fitness, Finance, etc. etc.

I submitted the site to two areas back in Mid-May (can't remember exactly, but I believe there were:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/

and another was:
http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Directories/

I have the read the guidelines, but was wondering if I should or shouldn't submit to multiple places, since the site covers such a wide variety of verticals.

(BTW, neither of these has been accepted yet. Hoping that I didn't get dinged for submitting to two places....).

Or is there one place that I should have submitted to (or should there be a new subcategory?).

Thanks,
-Frank

No, no, no, do not EVER "target" us. It does not amuse. We call that "shotgun spamming." And it backfires.

Suggest to one place; when (i.e. usually) the editor thinks there is abetter place, he'll move it there.

No probem - so what should I do now?

Didn't mean to offend anyone. Yes, I know that Dmoz doesn't like "shotgun spamming" (I am sure that Dmoz probably still receives a lot of these, even though Dmoz is clear that you shouldn't do this...) I am regretting now that I submitted twice :( Just want to make sure I get placed in the most relevant category. Should I expect to hear back from someone who edits one of those directories (one didn't have an editor, I believe)? Or should I re-submit to the 1 directory that I find most relevant (this was part of the problem, honestly, b/c I couldn't find one category that fit the site exactly...).

Thanks for your help,
-Frank

No, an editor almost certainly won't contact you.

And two submittals of a decent site won't put you in the doghouse for very long at all -- there are too many reasons (including innocent mistakes). The mole-whackers probably won't even notice.

Most categories don't have named editors; but nearly all of the editing in all categories, is done by anonymous (parent category or editall) editors. (Because if a category editor gets to be too active, he tends to end up BEING one of those parent category editors.)

No, your fate is as much in your own hands as if the ODP had never existed: forget that, and your fate is flushed.

So now pretend the ODP doesn't exist, and do your business.
