Hi,

We recently moved our websites (which is already listed in DMOZ) to a new domain name.

Is the procedure to make that change in the DMOZ directory?

Thanks

Visit the category where it's listed and use the update listing link at the top of the page.

To guard against ODP listing hijacks, we avoid amending a listed URL when the original is still functional. Please arrange for the original to redirect to the new . This can either be automatic or a prominent notice on the original home page.

I suggest that you avoid simultaneously requesting a description change to a promotional or keyword stuffed one lest it be shot on sight - without the editor noticing the domain change.

How to move domain names.

I am trying to update my Open Directory listing and submitted my request through "Update Listing" and received a thoughtful response from Jim Noble:
"To guard against ODP listing hijacks, we avoid amending a listed URL when the original is still functional. Please arrange for the original to redirect to the new and then ask again. This can either be automatic or a prominent notice on the original home page."
I am having a problem complying with the request, which I think is a reasonable one.
My The old URL<url removed> is on a server that now calls itself MobileMe, which is owned by Apple Computer. They have a new server which they host for all their current accounts: <url removed> (not the site I have listed with DMOZ.
They no longer will allow me to change those original pages which DMOZ is pointing to and I cannot alter them, and they say that they are unable to foward the .mac URL to my current one. I have submitted a complaint to them, but I am doubtful they will respond with action, as I have attempted to make changes on these old pages before with no avail.
Perhaps you could verify my authenticity in some other way?
My new URL <url removed>
You could check the phone numbers or emails on both sites or contact me though email from both sites and I could reply to your notes?
I am open to your suggestions.

We just give general advice here. I suggest that you raise another update request and explain all that detail within it where the evaluating editor will be able to see it.

Hey Jim,

I did submit a change requset a little over two weeks ago. Simply submitted the new site with official domain name title and description (no keyword stuffing or anything like that). The old site is also 301 redirected to the new site.

The old site is now out of DMOZ but the new site is not added. Would you be able to check on it for me?

The old site was: <URLs removed>

Thanks Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

The two sites were identical. So why would a reviewer spend the time to take the listing off but not to put the new one on? Is there something else I should do?

Thanks

There are a few possible reasons why the site is not listed at this moment
1) it is not listable anymore according to DMOZ guidelines
2) the site was not available and was moved out of public view for an editor to look at
3) when looking at your update request the editor decided that the website should be listed in another category, it is now waiting review in that categort
