i did not find anything about this question in the faq's and in the forums.
i admit i can hardly believe this and i suspect i am just too stupid.
sorry!

i am a scientist and i would like to make our research known to ODP but our sites definitely don't fit into the existing categories. the link to suggest a category leads to a dead end.

we miss <Physiology> and <Biomechanics> in <Health:Medicine:Research> to submit
<urls removed>
the existing categories are very far fetched for us (Epidemiology, Gene Therapy, Medical Artificial Intelligence, Nursing, Ophthalmology, Pain Management, Pediatrics)

thanks for any helping answer!

We only create a new category when we have a number of websites to list in it (demonstrating a need) and after internal discussion. There's no mechanism for third parties to request one.

Meanwhile, suggest your website to what you think the parent category should be. If you add a note to your proposed description [like this] the editors will take note of your views. They'd have a lot more strength if you also suggested half a dozen other websites about the same subject :).

Hi Samurex, new categories are only created when we have enough (normaly 3 to 5) websites to be listed in that category. Just find the current category in which the new category would be created and suggest the websites there. If you know more websites about the same subject please also suggest them. The more websites the highre the chance that a new category will be created.

Notice that http://www.dmoz.org/Health/Medicine/Research/ has many sub-categories with an @ at the end. Those categories are not part of Research itself but are located in the part of Health they do research on.

To find an appropriate category do a search on the keywords.
Biomechanics might be http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Biology/Biomechanics/
Physiology might be http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Biology/Physiology/

So just select the existinng category you think is the most appropriate. When necessary an editor will move them to an even better category or create a new one.

<added> Jim must have been typing while I started my answer.

thanks a lot!
i would have never dreamed of being in one category with plant fossils.
traditionally in science, biology and medicine are very different in many aspects.

Samurex, I do not know if these are the right categories as I do not know enough about Health and Medicine. Those were just the categories that appeared when I did a search for those two terms.
