It is not waiting for review in that category. Are you sure you didn't submit it to one of the letter subcategories (which would have been the proper place to submit it)?

I noticed on my logs that a DMOZ editor already visited my site. How long does it take before I see it in the listing if it was accepted?

By my experience it should be quick - a matter of hours or days - but takes longer if there are issues with the servers.

Note editors visit sites in one of a few "modes" or "passes": it could be the case that they go through the queue quickly just looking out for sites that meet one of the obvious criteria for deletion. During such a pass, only a site that screams out "list me", would make it out of the unreviewed queue. I'm not saying this is official, just some editors' modus operandi. So it may take a few visits to get listed (or declined), and some editors will work more "stealthily" than others, so don't hang on those logs. ;)

Right, and it is entirely possible that an editor visited the site as a result of your forum posting.

For example, I routinely visit sites that are asked about in the forums, because I want to see if they might be eligible for a Regional/ listing in addition to the topical listing they requested.

When this happens, my visit means absolutely, completely nothing in terms of getting the site listed. This is but one reason that we advise webmasters not to get caught up in trying to figure out what we are doing as a result of server logs.

Per forum guidelines you will be eligible for your next status check no earlier than March 19. Secondary status checks are spaced 6 months apart to allow editors more time spent editing and less time spent answering request. Thanks!

I see no change in status of your suggestion. Sorry not to have better news. :(

You may ask again in another 6 months.

Does it really take this long? How long should I wait before I submit an application again?

Some take much longer. As long as you know it is waiting, it would not be to your advantage to re-submit unless an editor tells you specifically to do so. There is a link to the FAQ in my signature. You will find some very helpful information there. :)

There is no need for you to submit another suggestion: there's already one waiting to be reviewed, and an editor will get to it eventually! :)
